Count Your Blessings

This was composed by Cameron on his 86th birthday January 14th 1972

For six and eighty years I've lived

In England’s pleasant land

Many’s the blessings I’ve received

From God’s Almighty hand.

When a babe in my Mother’s arms

I soon learned how to talk

And after that, with timid steps

I found that I could walk.

With loving parents and happy home
I grew to be a man;
I went to work to play my part
In accordance with God’s plan.

I married Ethel, who, happy and gay
Was a devoted wife and mother,
Our lives were blended into one
As we worked for the church together.

She bore three sons that gave us joy
And every hope for their future,
That they would play their part as men
In the life of the world’s adventure.

I lost my dear one eight years ago,
How I miss her, God only knows
But she did not leave me comfortless
For love and kindness around me flows.

My near and dear ones show to me
Such abundance of love and care,
And with the solicitude of friends
To be unhappy, I would not dare.

My life, of course, has had its trials
For such is but the lot of man;
But I thank my God for blessings given
From the time my life began.
